Situated in the province of Limburg in the Ardennes, Valkenburg sits conveniently at the crossroads of four countries, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg and is surrounded by rolling wooded hills. Long established as a favourite with British schools, Valkenburg has all the necessary amenities to ensure a really memorable tour. Valkenburg's history goes back further than most of the Netherlands. Its other name is Marl Town, referring to the unique stone of the area. Valkenburg is lively and colourful, with many shops, bars, small cafés and a casino. A river winds through the centre of town, and is criss-crossed by small hump-backed bridges.
